Job Title: Breastfeeding Peer Support Worker

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Breastfeeding Peer Support Worker. As a Breastfeeding Peer Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting families to feed their baby their way, promoting healthy nutrition, and building strong relationships between parents and their infants.

About the Role:

As a Breastfeeding Peer Support Worker, you will work closely with pregnant and postnatal women, their partners, and families to provide emotional support, guidance, and education on breastfeeding and infant feeding. You will work in a team environment, collaborating with Health Visitors, Midwives, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive care for families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide breastfeeding support and guidance to pregnant and postnatal women, their partners, and families.
  • Work in a team environment to deliver breastfeeding-focused interventions, promoting healthy nutrition and strong relationships between parents and their infants.
  • Engage with families in their homes, via telephone support, and in community groups to provide emotional support and education on breastfeeding and infant feeding.
  • Collaborate with Health Visitors, Midwives, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive care for families.
  • Participate in breast feeding incentives and undertake any other duties reasonably required within the remit of the role.

Requirements:

  • Personal experience of breastfeeding a baby.
  • Experience of working or significant volunteering in a healthcare-related area, preferably in a skill mix team.
  • Ability to plan and organize own workload, interpret and work within the parameters of standard operating procedures, and demonstrate empathy, compassion, and the ability to reassure.
  • Flexibility to be a team member yet can be self-reliant and self-motivated.
  • Good basic numeracy and literacy to GCSE level or equivalent.
