Flood Risk Model Developer

At Moody's, we are seeking a highly skilled Flood Risk Model Developer to join our team. As a key member of our Model Development department, you will be responsible for contributing to the scientific and technological development of our large-scale flood hazard model components.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hydrology, climate sciences, or a closely related field, and a desire to apply their expertise in quantifying the risks driven by inland flood. You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to build mathematical models that predict damage caused by natural catastrophes.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the development of flood hazard models by researching and implementing novel scientific techniques
  • Calibrate and validate model components throughout the comparison to observed data
  • Evaluate final model output using statistical methods and GIS tools
  • Communicate research to clients and other stakeholders across teams

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Hydrology, Hydraulics, Coastal and Ocean Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline
  • Strong programming ability in scientific and analytical scripting/programming languages
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to effectively communicate insights to internal and external stakeholders

Advantageous Skills:

  • Knowledge of Machine Learning techniques applied to large environmental datasets
  • Experience working with large-scale climate model datasets
  • Familiarity with large-scale model development projects on HPC environments in Linux
