Job Description

Our Building Design Practice is seeking a senior fire engineer to join our national team of design professionals. This role will involve delivering fire engineering design solutions to clients across various sectors, including cities and development, commercial, energy, residential, and transportation.

With flexibility around location, the successful candidate can be based in our Derby or London offices, or potentially in our growing teams in the North and South West. Preferred UK locations are Bristol, Epsom, London, or Derby.

Responsibilities:
  • Work on a range of projects, from residential buildings to rail transportation and new energy facilities.
  • Manage multiple engineering projects from inception to delivery, ensuring compliance with fire safety standards and codes.
  • Support the timely and cost-effective delivery of project work.
  • Stay up-to-date with regulations and legislation.
  • Develop fire engineering solutions and ensure the fire engineering strategy delivered.
  • Assess fire-related risks and collaborate to mitigate where possible.
  • Review and comment on fire safety-related installations.
  • Undertake tenders for new work.
  • Prepare reports, participate in design team meetings, and liaise with client representatives as required.
Requirements:
  • Engineering degree, preferably fire engineering or a postgraduate qualification in fire engineering. Applicants with different backgrounds are also considered.
  • Demonstrate a strong record of successfully delivering fire safety projects. Experience in other sectors is strongly considered.
  • Strong experience working with fire standards, including BS9999, NFPA 130, BS9992, and EN45545.
  • Be customer-centric and cultivate this philosophy in our team.
  • Able to work towards chartered fire engineer status.
  • A flexible approach to the working environment.
  • Willingness to travel is a positive advantage.
  • Fire modeling experience is beneficial.
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • Ability to collate information and have a clear, structured approach to report writing.
