Job SummaryThe Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities will provide strategic direction and advice on the estate, ensuring it is safe, fit for the future, and managed effectively and efficiently. This role holds corporate and professional responsibility for estates and facilities service standards, governance, policies, financial management, statutory and regulatory compliance, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement strategic plans for the estate, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals and objectives.
- Provide expert advice on estates and facilities management, including budgeting, procurement, and contract management.
- Lead and manage a team of estates and facilities professionals, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and standards, including health and safety, environmental, and accessibility requirements.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including staff, patients, visitors, and external partners.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators, including budgetary performance, service delivery, and customer satisfaction.
- Degree in a relevant estates or facilities discipline.
- Post-graduate qualification at doctorate level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
- Chartered professional registration/accreditation in a relevant discipline (e.g., RIBA, CIOB, RICS, CIBSE, etc.).
- Project management qualification or equivalent level of experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) and leadership development.
- Significant senior management experience in a large organization in estates and facilities management.
- Experience of managing major change and shaping the future, with strategic and budget-setting skills.
- Effective partnership working with other organizations at a senior level, preferably in a mix of public, private, and voluntary sectors.
- Experience of establishing effective financial control procedures.
- Strong commercial and contracts management experience to ensure robust financial, legal, and risk management.
- Ability to write and present complex information, including business cases, tender specifications, and board reports and policies.
- Previous experience working as a Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities within the NHS.
- Significant senior management experience in a large organization in estates and facilities management.
- Technical, construction, and project management skills.
- Ability to meet the above criteria and be immediately available.
