At Colas Rail UK, we are seeking a skilled Freight Train Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of freight trains on the LNE - Doncaster to Newcastle route.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate freight trains in accordance with laid down procedures and safety protocols.
  • Ensure the safety of the line, employees, and the public.
  • Perform locomotive preparation and disposal duties, and fuel locomotives as required.
  • Undertake in-service locomotive and train faultfinding, and assist in repairs where competent.
  • Record and report locomotive and train defects in accordance with Rulebook and Company Procedures.
  • Prepare locomotives for service and undertake train preparation and freight examination duties.
  • Carry out the simplified brake test as directed.
  • Undertake route learning as directed and sign for routes after sufficient time for learning.
  • Assist maintenance staff and undertake weekly locomotive exams as required.
  • Work various shift patterns, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Be prepared to lodge away from home when required.
  • Ensure the highest level of professionalism when dealing with colleagues, clients, and the public.

Person Specification

  • Appropriate traction knowledge.
  • Freight rules and regulations.
  • Basic wagon knowledge.
  • Personal Track Safety.
  • Current route knowledge for the LNE Region would be advantageous.
