About Midway Surgery

Midway Surgery is a friendly and busy GP Surgery located in St Albans, Herts. We are seeking a highly organized and customer-focused Medical Receptionist to join our team.

Job Summary

We are looking for a Medical Receptionist who can provide a positive experience for our patients. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing patient communications, handling administrative tasks, and maintaining a professional image of the Practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and direct patients to the appropriate healthcare professional
  • Manage patient communications, including telephone calls, text messages, and letters
  • Utilize the Practice computer system to support patient care and communication
  • Deal with general enquiries, explain procedures, and make appointments
  • Ensure that patients access members of the clinical team within appropriate time frames
  • Manage patient records and maintain confidentiality
  • Provide guidance on Practice services to new patients and those seeking temporary medical cover
  • Ensure that all new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately
Requirements
  • Good secondary education
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good telephone manner
  • Computer literate - email, internet, and Microsoft Word
  • Excellent customer care approachable and caring
  • Ability to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled team
  • Calm and able to deal with difficult situations
  • Use own initiative
  • Keen learner
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Professional and friendly personality
  • Organized
  • An understanding, acceptance, and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality
Desirable Qualifications
  • Medical Receptionist training
  • Customer Care training
  • Experience in General Practice or other medical environment
  • Experience in customer care
  • Other languages
  • Experience of using the EMIS web clinical system
Working Environment

The successful candidate will work at Midway Surgery, 93 Watford Road, St Albans, Herts AL2 3JX, and/or any other site within a reasonable geographical range that the Surgery may operate its services from in the future.

The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the Practice, and will:

  • Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk
  • Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, both directly or under supervision
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the team's performance
  • Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients' needs
  • Effectively manage own time, workload, and resources
