About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Residential Childcare Worker to join our team at Spark of Genius, a leading provider of residential childcare services in Scotland.

As a Senior Residential Childcare Worker, you will play a key role in supporting the care team to deliver high-quality care to young people with complex needs. You will be responsible for supervising and mentoring Residential Childcare Workers, ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge to provide effective care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide supervisory and mentoring support to Residential Childcare Workers
  • Take responsibility for practice development of the care team, including allocated supervision and performance management of staff
  • Ensure that the care team has the skills, knowledge, and ability to care for children and young people effectively
  • Support on-call arrangements as a Senior Member of the team
  • Assist with management tasks, including finance, fleet, environment, and Health and Safety, staffing matters, including absence, recruitment, training, and development
  • Contribute to assessment and care plan arrangements, participating in reviews and other meetings as necessary
  • Ensure that both local authority and internal care plans are in place and that staff fully understand their role
  • Deputise in the absence of the management team, where necessary
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience as a Residential Childcare Worker
  • A high standard of reporting and recording
  • Experience of working in a mentoring role
  • Wide knowledge of the behaviours displayed by children and young people and an understanding of a myriad of intervention strategies
  • Wide knowledge of the behaviours displayed by children and young people and an understanding of legislation in relation to childcare, including National Care Standards and Child Protection
  • An understanding of the process of child development
  • Knowledge of how to apply systems and processes within residential homes that are compliant with the National Care Standards
  • Ability to work shifts, including evenings and weekends
  • An ability to assist in on-call arrangements to meet business needs
Qualifications and Education

You will need to have:

  • SSSC conditions for Residential Childcare Worker fully met (e.g., SVQ 3/SQF 6/7 and HNC/Academic equivalent)
  • Commencement of SQF Level 9 Children and Young People, and/or a practice qualification in the Management Category or equivalent that meets SSSC requirements when in post
  • Achieved or working towards the 2nd SSSC condition for RCCW is desirable
  • SQF Level 9 Children and Young People, and/or a practice qualification in the Management Category is desirable
  • Professional Care qualification (BA Hons Social Work or equivalent) is desirable
  • Appropriate registration with the SSSC or any other relevant regulatory bodies is desirable
