Key Responsibilities
  1. Support: Provide assistance to the National Drone Manager in the delivery of the governance and assurance programme for Network Rail volunteer drone pilots. This includes on-site pilot assessments, record keeping, currency and battery management to ensure they are operating legally and safely.
  2. Vendor Negotiation: Engage with suppliers on Network Rail's UAS framework to obtain competitive quotations for customers. Validate pricing and ensure capability delivery, facilitating the adoption and deployment of drone technology across Routes and Regions.
  3. Operations Manual Maintenance: Update and maintain relevant sections of Network Rail's Drone Operations Manual, ensuring changes to the list of approved pilots and equipment are communicated to colleagues. This supports compliance with safety and legal standards.
  4. Competence Monitoring: Oversee the competence of Network Rail's volunteer drone pilots by ensuring compliance with record-keeping, training currency, and battery management, providing assurance to the National Drone Manager of safe and legal operations.
  5. Flight Plan Review: Monitor the Flight Management System by assessing drone flight plans submitted by volunteer pilots for adherence to CAA regulations, Network Rail's Drone Operations Manual, and UAS standards. Approve or reject plans to minimize risk and ensure safe operations.
  6. Drone Pilot Training Coordination: Manage all aspects of internal drone pilot training, including business case assessment, obtaining provider quotes, maintaining training waitlists, issuing call-up notices, and handling general inquiries. Ensure timely access to professional training in line with Service Level Agreements.
  7. Technology Research Support: Assist the National Drone Manager in researching and developing new drone and SUA technologies, ensuring Network Rail's drone capabilities stay aligned with industry advancements.
  8. Technical and Analytical Support: Contribute to the ongoing improvement of standards, processes, and systems within the team, enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring high-quality service delivery to customers.
  9. Drone Awareness & Promotion: Lead drone awareness initiatives by analyzing data and providing expertise, creating reports and promotional materials that highlight the team's services across the business.
  10. Administrative Duties: Perform general administrative tasks such as responding to public and professional drone company inquiries, raising invoices, tracking spend against contracts, and supporting the Finance Business Partner with periodic off-charges.

Requirements:

  • Experience of working with customers and suppliers in aviation, rail, or similar industry.
  • Confident working with complex technical information and financial data.
  • Time management skills and the ability to prioritise in a busy environment.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Desirable:

  • Working knowledge of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations concerning the operation of drones/Small Unmanned Aircraft (SUA).
  • Knowledge of aerial survey/operations/equipment.
