About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Technical Claims Underwriter to join our team at Hiscox. As a key member of our Technical Claims Team, you will play a vital role in managing a portfolio of mostly escape of water claims.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver exceptional customer service daily, upholding the Hiscox Claims philosophy and embodying our values.
  • Meet and exceed pre-defined SLAs/targets, ensuring timely and effective claim resolution.
  • Conduct comprehensive triage on allocated escape of water claims, ensuring the correct vendor or resource is assigned to each claim.
  • Liaise with customers to arrange appointments for field visits, creating bespoke action plans for each claim.
  • Set an early strategy on each claim, validating, negotiating, and settling claims fairly and proactively, with an emphasis on prompt resolution and careful control of indemnity spend.
  • Follow a defined process, ensuring information is recorded in a clear and consistent manner, with clear thought process and next steps planning.
  • Liaise with customers, contractors, disaster management companies, surveyors, and nominated contractors to guide building work projects through to completion on budget and on time.
  • Handle enquiries from policyholders, third parties, and experts on existing claims, identifying key triggers requiring escalation or additional review.
  • Provide risk management information and recommendations to policyholders and underwriters for the improvement of the risk to Hiscox.
  • Deliver first-class technical assistance on individual tasks and team projects within the Technical Team, while supporting the wider claims team on their technical development.
Requirements
  • Passionate about service and delivering exceptional customer experiences.
  • Proven claims handling experience across multiple products, including high net worth household and commercial risks, with a key focus on Escape of Water.
  • First-class oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently within claims underwriting guidelines.
  • Solid attention to detail and confidence in dealing with internal and external customers and clients.
  • A sound understanding of building construction and drying techniques.
  • Self-motivated and dynamic, with an ability to respond positively to change.
  • A team player who likes to work hard and have fun.
  • Must be adaptable to all situations, with strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to support and coach others.
