Senior Consultant in Colorectal Surgery

We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Surgeon to join our Colorectal team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a busy tertiary referral teaching hospital, managing an undifferentiated general surgical take, including major trauma, and having a subspecialist colorectal interest.

As a member of our team, you will be responsible for managing colorectal cancer MDTs and IBD MDTs, elective laparoscopic and open surgery, colonoscopy lists, and outpatient activity. You will also be expected to cover the unselected emergency weekend take and participate in the on-call rota.

Key responsibilities
  • Manage an elective colorectal practice with a subspecialist interest
  • Participate in the management of general surgical major trauma
  • Develop and lead clinical services, including the development of new initiatives and quality improvement projects
  • Contribute to the education and training of medical and surgical staff
  • Participate in the development and implementation of clinical governance and audit initiatives
Person specification

We are looking for a Consultant Surgeon with a strong background in colorectal surgery, who is able to demonstrate excellent clinical and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of managing complex surgical cases and a keen interest in teaching and education.

The successful candidate will be a registered medical practitioner with a GMC specialist registration in colorectal surgery and will have a strong understanding of the principles of clinical governance and audit. They will also be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuing medical education and the requirements of clinical governance and audit.
