About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at Shire Oak Academy, supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the classroom teacher and SENDCo in ensuring students with SEND have full access to the curriculum.
  • Work closely with students to provide tailored in-class and out-of-class support, develop strong relationships, and adapt learning materials to meet individual needs.
  • Assist in the delivery of structured work programmes and help adapt curriculum content for students with additional needs.
  • Support the development and implementation of Individual Learning Plans and assist with monitoring students' progress.
  • Provide feedback to teachers on student progress and contribute to lesson planning.
  • Help manage classroom behaviour in line with the Academy's behaviour management strategies.
  • Undertake basic administrative tasks to support the teacher.
Key Skills and Qualities
  • Experience working with children, particularly those with additional needs.
  • A proactive and caring attitude, with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt the curriculum to meet individual needs and support students with a range of learning barriers.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and health and safety policies in an educational setting.
