About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Assistant Director of People to join our Executive Leadership team at Greater Manchester Police. As a key member of our senior leadership team, you will play a critical role in shaping and delivering our people strategy, driving organisational change and improvement, and ensuring we have the right people with the right skills in place to achieve our goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive people strategy that aligns with our 5-year plan and supports our ambition to become the most improved and highest performing police force in the UK.
  • Lead and manage a team of HR professionals, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities to ensure they have the skills and expertise needed to deliver their roles effectively.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders across the organisation to influence and shape our people agenda, ensuring we have a clear understanding of our workforce needs and are taking proactive steps to address any gaps or challenges.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including our Chief Constable, Chief Officer Team, and other senior leaders, to ensure we are working together to achieve our goals.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on HR-related matters, ensuring we are compliant with relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Lead and manage projects and initiatives that drive organisational change and improvement, ensuring we are making the most of our resources and talent.
Requirements
  • Proven experience of working at a senior strategic level in a large, diverse organisation, with a track record of delivering tangible results.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to achieve their best.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop effective solutions.
  • Relevant professional qualification, such as a degree in HR or a related field, and a strong understanding of HR principles and practices.
