Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Clinical Support Worker to join our team in the Gastrointestinal Physiology and Pelvic Floor Services Department at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Clinical Support Worker, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our clinical staff in delivering exceptional patient outcomes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Clinical/Technical:
    • Switch on and perform basic running tests/calibration of equipment at the start of each clinic.
    • Prepare equipment for patient tests, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Assist patients in positioning for tests, providing a safe and comfortable environment.
    • Chaperone professional staff during patient interactions.
    • Monitor and order stock items, including patient information leaflets, and maintain a tidy stock cupboard.
    • Handle and deal with potentially distressing circumstances, providing emotional support to patients and families.
  • Communication:
    • Welcome patients, visitors, and relatives to the clinical area, providing assistance and support as needed.
    • Communicate effectively with patients who may have communication difficulties, using a variety of communication skills.
    • Answer the telephone in a polite and courteous manner, passing on enquiries to the Registered Professional as necessary.
    • Organize incoming post, referral letters, and other documents, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Management:
    • Assist in managing patient case loads, as directed by the Registered Professional.
    • Ensure equipment and resources are used efficiently and economically.
    • Participate in clinical audits, as directed by the Registered Professional.
  • Patient Administration:
    • Locate and ensure that appropriate notes and labels are available prior to tests.
    • Check patient details on arrival and enter them onto the unit computer.
    • Enter patient details onto test equipment and check for follow-up appointments.
    • Process patient feedback forms and print patient labels as necessary.
  • Research and Auditing:
    • Assist with gathering bowel scores, referrals, and outcomes, and add data to the spreadsheet.
  • Other Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Maintain the general tidiness and cleanliness of the unit, including the waiting area and stock cupboards.
    • Monitor stocks of routine consumables and re-order as necessary.
    • Top-up stores from main stores when necessary.
    • Check linen cupboard contents and re-order as necessary.
    • Remove and tie full linen bags and replace linen bags.
    • Maintain security within the unit and lock clinic room doors when not in use.
