Job Title: Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality speech and language therapy services to patients with complex needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and manage patients with multi-pathology conditions
- Develop and implement effective treatment plans
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care
- Provide education and training to patients, relatives, and staff
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives
Requirements:
- HCPC registration
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree
- Experience working with frail patients with complex needs
- Ability to assess, manage, and treat elderly patients with multi-pathology conditions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable Criteria:
- Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
- Member of CSP special interest group
- Postgraduate study/training related to older people and frailty
- Experience in a community setting
Technical Skills/Competencies:
- Ability to assess, manage, and treat elderly patients with multi-pathology conditions
- Ability to recognise a deteriorating patient
- Skills in goal setting and evaluating outcome measures
- Problem-solving skills
- Reflective practitioner
- Ability to produce clear written documentation of intervention and reports
- Therapeutic moving and handling skills at specialist level
- Ability to prioritise clinical workload
- IT skills within word processing
Knowledge:
- Good knowledge of long-term conditions affecting the older person
- Understanding current legislation relevant to older people and frailty
- The interface between hospital, intermediate care, and community services
Interpersonal Skills:
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills with an ability to establish a good rapport with a range of people
- Ability to teach patients, relatives, carers, and staff
- Ability to work effectively in a team
Other:
- Ability to drive and hold a clean driver's license

- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Flexible attitude and respond positively to change
Language Requirement:
- Be able to speak English as necessary to undertake the role
