Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Secretary to join our Respiratory department at the NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of patient care pathways.

Main Responsibilities

  • Process and log all referrals in accordance with Trust policies and procedures
  • Schedule appointments with the appropriate clinician, ensuring efficient use of time and resources
  • Coordinate diagnostic procedures and investigations, maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with patients and clinicians
  • Manage clinic outcomes accurately, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as necessary
  • Reschedule clinics when needed, ensuring minimal disruption to patient care
  • Ensure medical transcription is completed promptly, maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless patient record management
  • Liaise with Cancer Trackers for patients on cancer pathways, providing timely and effective support

Requirements

Essential:

  • RSA III or equivalent certification
  • GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
  • NVQ level II in business administration/customer care
  • Experience in IT systems and patient data management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Appointment scheduling experience
  • Customer care skills
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary team
  • Desirable: Experience in NHS, digital dictation systems, conflict resolution, healthcare settings, handling patient complaints
