Job Title: Physiotherapy Apprenticeship

Work Location: Learning Disability Service South Hub, Johnson Hospital Spalding

Duration: 33 months

Salary: The apprenticeship will be covered by the apprenticeship levy. The apprenticeship post is paid as per training contract (Annex 21 of Agenda for Change Handbook): Year 1 65% of top of Band 5, Year 2 70% of top of Band 5, Year 3 75% of top of Band 5.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our Allied Health Professionals in LPFT and complete your training to be a physiotherapist with Sheffield Hallam University whilst working from your base at our Learning Disability Service South Hub based at Johnson Hospital.

You will learn new skills, study a BSc Physiotherapy degree, and develop as an individual. The course normally takes 33 months.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. To work under the overall supervision of a qualified occupational therapist to provide a client-centred occupational therapy service to a defined caseload of service users with complex needs.
  2. To support the occupational therapist in the implementation of intervention plans aimed at helping clients to maintain and regain independence in functional abilities and promoting clients' safety through the participation in everyday occupation.
  3. To complete the occupational therapy degree level apprenticeship and gain full registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) on qualifying.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Three GCSE passes at grade C / grade 4 or above including Maths, English, and Science, or equivalent.
  • 112 UCAS points from A levels (including at least 40 points from either a natural science subject such as Biology or Human biology, or a social science subject such as Psychology, Sociology, Health and Social Care), or equivalent BTEC National qualifications.
  • Access to HE Diploma from a QAA recognised Access to HE course in health studies, health science, nursing or another science-based course.
  • A previous degree in a related Natural or Social Science subject.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Have relevant work experience in a care setting.
  • Provide evidence of understanding of Occupational Therapy.

Skills:

Essential:

  • Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs.
  • Understanding of the scope of the role of the OT apprentice.
  • Evidence of time management skills and ability to prioritise.
  • Intermediate IT skills.
  • Ability to communicate with members of the public and health and care providers.

Special Requirements:

Essential:

  • Ability to move between sites working across health and social care as required.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to a registered care professional.
