About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Physiotherapy Apprentice. As a Physiotherapy Apprentice, you will work under the supervision of a qualified physiotherapist to provide a client-centred service to a defined caseload of service users with complex needs.
Key Responsibilities
- To work under the overall supervision of a qualified physiotherapist to provide a client-centred occupational therapy service to a defined caseload of service users with complex needs.
- To support the physiotherapist in the implementation of intervention plans aimed at helping clients to maintain and regain independence in functional abilities and promoting clients safety through the participation in everyday occupation.
- To complete the occupational therapy degree level apprenticeship and gain full registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) on qualifying.
Person Specification
Essential
- Three GCSE passes at grade C / grade 4 or above including Maths, English, and Science, or equivalent* level 2 functional skills.
- 112 UCAS points from A levels (including at least 40 points from either a natural science subject such as Biology or Human biology, or a social science subject such as Psychology, Sociology, Health and Social Care), or equivalent BTEC National qualifications (including suitable natural or social science modules).
- Access to HE Diploma from a QAA recognised Access to HE course in health studies, health science, nursing or another science-based course.
- A previous degree in a related Natural or Social Science subject.
- Open University study in Natural or Social Sciences, foundation course.
- Sheffield Hallam University FdSc Professional Practice in Health and Social Care.
Desirable
- Experience of working alongside a physiotherapist as an OT support worker.
- Understanding of evidence based practice.
Skills
Essential
- Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate.
- Understanding of the scope of the role of the OT apprentice in context of the team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development.
- Evidence of time management skills and ability to prioritise.
- Intermediate IT skills.
- Ability to communicate with members of the public and health and care providers.
- Ability to deal with non-routine and unpredictable nature of the workload and individual patient contact.
- Demonstrate ability to study academic subjects at degree level.
- Demonstrate ability to debate topics and issues.
- Demonstrate ability to draw on conclusions from written material.
- Demonstrate ability to study independently as well as a member of a group.
Special Requirements
Essential
- Ability to move between sites working across health and social care as required by the needs of the development programme.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Ability to take part in reflective practice and clinical supervision activities.
- Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to a registered care professional.
- Understanding of the importance of the promotion of health and wellbeing (Making Every Contact Count).
