Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Ophthalmology Specialist to join our team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality clinical services in the sub-specialties of genetic eye disease and medical retina, while also contributing to the development of clinical research and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical leadership and drive service improvement, efficiency, and innovation in the sub-specialties of genetic eye disease and medical retina.
- Support and develop the local and regional clinics for patients with genetic eye disease, as well as the basic science and clinical research portfolio.
- Contribute to the overall function of the ophthalmology department by supporting all colleagues and points of service delivery as required.
- Engage fully in all aspects of clinical audit, clinical governance, and patient experience pertaining to their area of specialism.
Person Specification:
- Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
- Well-organized and skilled in good time management.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.
Requirements:
- MB BS or equivalent qualification.
- FRCOphth or equivalent.
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current license to practice.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
Desirable:
- Relevant higher degree.
- Good Clinical Practice certification.
- Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
