Job Description

Job Title: Consultant in Ophthalmology Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Ophthalmology Specialist to join our team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality clinical services in the sub-specialties of genetic eye disease and medical retina, while also contributing to the development of clinical research and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical leadership and drive service improvement, efficiency, and innovation in the sub-specialties of genetic eye disease and medical retina.
  • Support and develop the local and regional clinics for patients with genetic eye disease, as well as the basic science and clinical research portfolio.
  • Contribute to the overall function of the ophthalmology department by supporting all colleagues and points of service delivery as required.
  • Engage fully in all aspects of clinical audit, clinical governance, and patient experience pertaining to their area of specialism.

Person Specification:

  • Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
  • Well-organized and skilled in good time management.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.

Requirements:

  • MB BS or equivalent qualification.
  • FRCOphth or equivalent.
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current license to practice.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Is up to date and fit to practise safely.

Desirable:

  • Relevant higher degree.
  • Good Clinical Practice certification.
  • Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
