Data Protection Specialist for Global Tech Leader

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal team at DeepL, a global tech company that is revolutionizing language translation. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of data protection and privacy across our operations.
About the RoleThis exciting opportunity offers the chance to work with a talented team of professionals who are passionate about innovation and excellence. As a Data Protection Specialist, you will be responsible for providing expert advice on data protection matters, including GDPR, UK privacy laws, and other relevant regulations.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams, such as product, commercial, marketing, and IT-security teams, to ensure compliance with data protection regulations. Your expertise will help us navigate complex legal landscapes and drive business growth while minimizing risk.
Responsibilities- Provide strategic legal advice on data protection matters to internal stakeholders
- Partner with commercial, product, and engineering teams to develop cutting-edge AI products and features
- Advise on online marketing activities to ensure compliance with UK and international laws and regulations
- Maintain knowledge of new and changing legislation, advising on potential impacts for the company and supporting implementation of new requirements
- Support review and negotiation of supplier agreements with specific data protection implications
- UK or US qualified lawyer with 5+ years' experience in advising on data protection matters as in-house counsel, combined with prior experience in private practice
- Strong knowledge of GDPR, UK privacy laws, and emerging trends and best practices
- Solid understanding of global data protection laws, including US privacy laws
- Experience working with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with data protection regulations
- Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills to analyze complex information and identify key issues/actions to drive resolutions
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills in English
