About the Role
CHEC is seeking a highly skilled Audiologist to join our team on a sessional basis. As an Audiologist, you will be responsible for undertaking hearing assessments of adults of all ages, covering all routine aspects of audiometric testing, and conducting hearing aid assessments, fittings, and ongoing support for adults and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake hearing assessments of adults of all ages, including history taking and discussion with patients and/or caregivers as required.
- Conduct all routine aspects of audiometric testing, including audiometry, tympanometry, and acoustic reflex testing.
- Undertake hearing aid assessments, fittings, and ongoing support for adults and families, using both analogue and digital signal processing instruments according to MSE/department protocols.
- Take aural impressions on patients of all ages, following British Society of Audiology recommended procedures.
- Undertake hearing aid validation using Real Ear Measurement systems, RECD, and free field testing as appropriate, and act accordingly on information obtained from insertion gain testing.
- Actively promote a patient-focused approach and apply such principles throughout the service.
- Liaise with external agencies, such as cochlear implant teams, as necessary.
- Modify NHS hearing aids and ear moulds in all cases.
- Attend regular update meetings and training courses as necessary.
- Involvement in the maintenance and calibration of technical equipment.
- Maintain patient records appropriately.
- Assist in the maintenance of appropriate stock levels.
Person Specification
Essential
- Hold a BSc in Audiology or equivalent qualification, such as BAAT (parts I&II) plus Btec Medical Physics & Physiological Measurement, or Dip HE in Audiology.
- Be eligible for registration with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCCP).
- Have one year's undergraduate placement in an Audiology Department as part of the Audiology Degree, or one year's experience working in NHS Audiology.
- Be able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Be able to communicate complex clinical information to the hearing impaired, their families, and carers.
- Be able to use computerized patient management systems.
- Have good time management and organizational skills.
- Be able to formulate appropriate clinical management strategies based on case history and relevant test results.
- Have theoretical knowledge of digital hearing aid fitting.
