PhD Studentship: Enhancing Hydrogen Generation Efficiency in Electrolysis
3 days ago
Project Overview
The University of Cambridge is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join a research project focused on improving the efficiency of hydrogen generation in electrolysis. This project is part of a larger initiative to develop sustainable energy solutions, and the successful candidate will contribute to the development of innovative technologies for hydrogen production.
Research Objectives
- Investigate the processes behind bubble formation, growth, and separation in electrolysis
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the role of electrode structure, composition, and surfaces in bubble formation
- Design and fabricate electrodes with optimized surface properties to control bubble formation
Methodology
The project will employ a combination of experimental and theoretical approaches, including:
- Optical electron and atomic force microscopy-based mapping and characterization of electrode structures
- Advanced functional property imaging (surface potential, grain structure, chemical functionality)
Requirements
The successful candidate will have a strong background in engineering, physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related field. A good understanding of electrolysis and hydrogen production processes is essential. The candidate should also have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
What We Offer
The University of Cambridge offers a fully funded PhD studentship, including a stipend and tuition fees at the UK rate. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a renowned research team and contribute to the development of innovative technologies for sustainable energy.
