We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Consultant Paediatric Haematologist to join our well-established team at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will have expertise in non-malignant haematology and a strong interest in driving forward the development of our paediatric haematology service. They will be responsible for the clinical management of patients with non-malignant haematological disorders, including rare inherited anaemias, and will contribute to the paediatric haematology laboratory service.

The post offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, with a strong commitment to teaching, education, research, and audit. The appointee will be expected to contribute to undergraduate teaching and to the higher specialist training of specialist registrars in haematology as an educational supervisor.

The ideal candidate will have relevant paediatric experience, FRCPath (or equivalent) and a strong track record of delivering high-quality patient care. They will be able to demonstrate relevant training in haematology and a commitment to ongoing professional development.

The post is open to those who hold FRCPath (or equivalent) and have relevant paediatric experience, as well as candidates who have trained as paediatricians and can demonstrate relevant training in haematology.

The appointee will be expected to take a normal role in management, administration, and audit within paediatric haematology/oncology and clinical and laboratory haematology.

This is a new post to expand and develop the regional paediatric haematology service after centralisation of services into one department based in the Great North Children's Hospital. This follows expansion of patient numbers and will allow consolidation of consultant areas of interest feeding into the stem cell transplant and cellular therapies service.

Depending on the interests and expertise of the candidate, this may include clinical management of patients with non-malignant conditions including haemoglobinopathies and malignant haematological disorders.

Clinical:
The main focus of the post is to support and develop the non-malignant service, however there will be a requirement for involvement in all aspects of haematology including laboratory, consultative and malignant haematology.

Non-malignant haematology:

• Responsibility for patients with non-malignant haematological disorders including rare inherited anaemias.

Malignant haematology:

• Clinical care of patients treated at the Primary Treatment Centre at GNCH.

Laboratory and consultative haematology duties:

• Suitably qualified (FRCPath or equivalent) individuals would be expected to contribute to the paediatric haematology laboratory service.

Bone marrow transplant:

• Depending on areas of interest there may be opportunity for pre- and post-transplant care of patients with haematological disorders treated within GNCH.

On-call Duties:

• There is a ward attending system during working hours and an out of hours on-call rota (1 in 8).

Administrative:

• The appointee will be expected to take a normal role in management, administration and audit within paediatric haematology/oncology and clinical and laboratory haematology.

Research:

• The appointee's help and involvement in current research within paediatric haematology will be welcomed.

Teaching:

• The appointee will be expected to contribute to undergraduate teaching and to the higher specialist training of specialist registrars in haematology as an educational supervisor.
