Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team as a Consultant Paediatric Haematologist. This new post is part of the service development to centralise and develop paediatric haematology, consolidating expertise in the department and focusing primarily on non-malignant haematology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical care to patients with non-malignant haematological disorders, including rare inherited anaemias.
  • Contribute to the paediatric haematology laboratory service, suitable for individuals with FRCPath or equivalent qualifications.
  • Participate in all aspects of haematology, including laboratory, consultative, and malignant haematology.
  • Develop and support the non-malignant service, with opportunities for involvement in clinical management of patients with non-malignant conditions.
  • Contribute to teaching, education, research, and audit within paediatric haematology and clinical and laboratory haematology.

Requirements

  • Registered medical practitioner with FRCPath (or equivalent) and relevant paediatric experience.
  • Eligible to join the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.

Working Arrangements

This is a new post to expand and develop the regional paediatric haematology service after centralisation of services into one department based in the Great North Children's Hospital. The appointee will be expected to take a normal role in management, administration, and audit within paediatric haematology/oncology and clinical and laboratory haematology.
