Job Overview

Abercorn Sinclair is seeking a skilled Automation Systems Specialist to join their team in Edinburgh. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in control systems and automation engineering, with a passion for working in a fast-paced biotechnology environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and configuring process systems to improve work efficiency, working closely with process engineers, production operators, and contractors to develop automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to technical automation projects, utilizing available frameworks to meet project goals on time and within budget.
  • Identify and recommend software and protocols for process scale-up, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
  • Oversee the development of controls architecture and OT networks for new systems, ensuring efficient data transfer and minimal downtime.
  • Develop and recommend automated testing processes and tools, ensuring comprehensive system validation.
  • Prepare control system documentation, including Functional Design Specification documents, to facilitate smooth system implementation.
  • Highlight design-stage gaps and implement corrective actions to ensure system integrity.
  • Collaborate with partners and the wider team to deliver the overall project, ensuring timely and within-budget completion.
  • Support knowledge sharing for test equipment and preventative maintenance plans, maintaining factory capacity and efficient product flow.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of control panel design, installation, and testing.
  • Experience configuring control systems in multiple programming languages.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and implement corrective actions to resolve.
  • Hands-on approach to process control systems and driving continuous improvements.
  • Demonstrable experience in defining and developing test automation strategies and/or approaches for multiple projects.
  • Ability to prioritize personal workload to achieve deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in working with MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with others and work independently.
  • Experience with lab scale-up, process development, and optimization is desirable.
