Job Title: Safeguarding Adults Community Coordinator

We are seeking a dedicated Safeguarding Professional to work with our team as the Safeguarding Adults Community Coordinator. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing recovery models and coordinating operational plans to oversee Safeguarding within the community for adults. There will be a focus on safeguarding, multiagency working, and Mental Capacity and mental health.

You will collaborate with external partners to ensure the delivery of high-quality care and optimal patient experiences.

The core purpose of this role is to ensure the Trust meets its organisational, national, and local responsibilities in Safeguarding Adults, the Mental Capacity Act (MCA), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), and Mental Health. This includes adherence to the CQC's Safeguarding Standards under the Safe domain. The role requires providing specialist knowledge in safeguarding, MCA, DoLS, and Mental Health, offering consultancy and support to staff across the Trust based on evidence-based practices. The postholder will play a critical role in ensuring safeguarding is prioritised and a culture of dignity and protection is embedded across the organisation, following the principles of Making Safeguarding Personal.

Main Duties of the Job

You will be responsible for implementing working recovery models and coordinating the operational plans for the service to ensure that people are able to manage their mental health, move through their recovery journeys, and achieve positive outcomes. The post holder will complement the work of the Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust liaison team. The post holder will also assist with the development of strategies and plans to advance the care of patients with mental health needs, collaborating with external partners to deliver optimal experiences and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide clinical expertise and consultancy at both Board and frontline levels on safeguarding adults, the Mental Capacity Act (MCA), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), and Mental Health issues.
  2. Support and guide staff in managing adult abuse concerns under the Care Act (2014), applying expert knowledge and evidence-based research, and in exceptional cases, lead enquiries and attend strategy meetings.
  3. Recognise and respond appropriately to self-harm and suicide prevention in line with Trust policies and training guidelines.
  4. Ensure systems and processes are in place within each service to safeguard adults at risk, in line with Care Act and Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) guidelines, collaborating with partner agencies.
  5. Offer professional safeguarding leadership in complex, risky, or uncertain situations, ensuring protection of adults at risk while respecting their human rights.
  6. Communicate complex, sensitive, and contentious information to professionals in various settings, analysing situations, making judgments and supporting staff in creating person-centred safety plans.
  7. Advise on Duty of Candour for safeguarding-related incidents, and assist in sharing lessons learned from SARs, DHRs, and local reviews across services.
  8. Collaborate with the Trust's Children's Safeguarding Team to promote best practices and ensure consistent safeguarding across the organisation.
  9. Contribute to Serious Case Review Panels, lead the implementation of complex case review recommendations, and maintain a log of section 42s, SARs and DHRs across services.
  10. Escalate key safeguarding risks, issues, and concerns to senior management, and assist with the Prevent agenda within your locality by serving as a point of contact and decision-maker for Prevent referrals.
  11. Assist with the design, deliver and tailor training on Safeguarding Adults, MCA, and Mental Health ensuring compliance with the Intercollegiate Document and Trust expectations, while continuously reviewing and updating training content.
  12. Participate in multi-agency research, practice and service development, and lead annual team-based training to ensure staff possess key safeguarding skills and knowledge.
  13. Review Datix incident forms and provide recommendations and support in policy development.
  14. Act as an accessible point of reference for safeguarding adults, MCA, DoLS, and mental health queries ensuring a respectful service that upholds the principles of the Care Act (2014), Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act.
  15. Contribute and attend Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hubs (MASH) and/or Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) when required to do so.
  16. Ensure DoLS trackers are maintained and staff are knowledgeable in fulfilling statutory duties, and assist in interpreting national policies, case law, and legislation into local strategies and policies.

  • Registered Nurse or Social Care professional
  • Knowledge of Mental Capacity Act / Mental Health Act
  • Knowledge and Experience of Safeguarding Adults
  • Qualified BIA Assessor
  • Experience of service development
