Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Education Specialist Tutor to join our team at South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing education and study skills support to adults with mental health needs in a forensic low and medium-secure setting.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in education, postgraduate training, and experience working with adult learners, particularly those with complex needs and challenging behavior. They will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work autonomously and prioritize tasks effectively.

The Education Specialist Tutor will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including occupational therapists and other healthcare professionals, to deliver accredited Functional Skills and ESOL courses to learners. They will also contribute to the development of new care pathways and learning support provision for service users with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ASD, and ADHD.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver adult education courses, including Functional Skills and ESOL, to learners with complex needs and challenging behavior.
  • Conduct specialist adult education initial and diagnostic assessments to identify learners' needs and develop personalized learning plans.
  • Liaise with education awarding bodies, process examination registrations, and certificates, and maintain accurate records of learner progress.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop new care pathways and learning support provision for service users with complex needs.
  • Provide specialist adult education advice to clinical teams and contribute to the development of new initiatives and projects.
  • Ensure that all learning materials and resources are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with the Trust's values and policies.
Person Specification

  • Degree or Diploma in Education, with postgraduate training and experience working with adult learners.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work autonomously and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience of working with learners with complex needs and challenging behavior, particularly those with mental health needs.
  • Ability to develop and deliver adult education courses, including Functional Skills and ESOL, to learners with varying abilities and needs.
  • Proficient in using IT systems and software, including learning management systems and digital assessment tools.
