About the Role:

The Financial Operations Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the transactional finance department, ensuring smooth operations and delivering an efficient service to the business. This role involves managing the core financial functions of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Credit Control, and Payroll.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Bank & Control Accounts:
    • Oversee daily/weekly reconciliations of core bank accounts and complete monthly reconciliations of all bank accounts.
    • Authorise bank payments and perform monthly reconciliations of suspense accounts.
    • Sign off recharge code reconciliations and confirm extras applied to invoices are appropriate.
    • Hold delegated authority for approval of purchase ledger payments in absence of the Financial Controller.
  • Billing Ledger & Credit Control:
    • Oversight of billing ledger reconciliation produced by the Accounts Receivable officer.
    • Govern credit control process, ensuring adherence to existing processes and proposing next steps to monitor, chase, and receive outstanding monies owed to the college.
    • Monthly debtors reconciliation and preparation of reports required by the Financial Controller.
    • Actively manage relationship with college debt collection agency, maintaining correspondence records and performing account reconciliations.
  • Purchase Ledger:
    • Oversight of purchase ledger reconciliation produced by the Accounts Payable officer.
    • Review and sign off weekly payment runs.
  • Payroll:
    • Review monthly payroll processing input by the Payroll officer and provide first sign-off.
    • Develop and maintain reports for analysis of staff costs for management accounts, external audit, and ad-hoc reporting requirements.
    • Maintain statistical records for audit and regular returns, supporting with payroll enquiries and/or completion of government/other returns when required.
  • Budget Management:
    • Support annual production of budget as directed by the Financial Controller.
    • Provide monthly budget reports to Academic Budget holders and ensure variances are understood and explained.
  • Office Management & Supervision:
    • Manage, motivate, appraise, and develop the Accounts team with support from the Finance Director.
    • Oversee operation of the accounts office, providing training and support where required.
    • Ensure queries are dealt with quickly and efficiently, providing a first response to complaints or concerns raised.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Salary: £45,000-£50,000 per annum, depending on experience.
