Axcis Education Recruitment is seeking a skilled Speech Therapist to work with adolescents in our dedicated ASD secondary school in Sutton, Surrey. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder to enhance their communication and social interaction skills.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in students with ASD. They will work collaboratively with teachers, occupational therapists, and other professionals to integrate speech therapy techniques into the student's educational and social environments.

  • Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, occupational therapists, and other professionals to integrate speech therapy techniques into the student's educational and social environments.
  • Create a supportive and understanding atmosphere where students feel comfortable and motivated to engage in therapy sessions.
  • Document progress and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, adapting strategies as necessary to ensure continuous development.
  • Conduct group and one-to-one therapy sessions, utilizing a range of therapeutic interventions appropriate for adolescents with ASD.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to share insights and plan cooperative strategies for supporting students' overall well-being.
  • Provide training and guidance to school staff and families on how to support the communication needs of students with ASD.
  • Stay updated with the latest research in speech and language therapy and ASD to enhance service delivery.

Requirements:

  • A recognized degree in Speech and Language Therapy or an equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Experience in working with children or adolescents with ASD is essential.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or eligibility to undergo checks).
  • Patience, resilience, and a positive approach to working with children and young people who have complex needs.
