Job Summary:

The Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Intensive Care Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our Intensive Care Unit, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our critical care services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the Intensive Care Consultant on-call rota and 'Hot Week system' to ensure seamless patient care and support.
  • Complete regular sessions in your dual specialty, utilizing your expertise to drive excellence in patient care.
  • Collaborate with our multidisciplinary team to develop and implement evidence-based practices, improving patient outcomes and enhancing the overall quality of care.
  • Contribute to the education and training of junior medical staff, promoting a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives, leveraging your expertise to drive positive change and enhance patient safety.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, patients, and families, fostering a culture of respect, empathy, and open communication.

Requirements:

  • Fellowship or Associate Fellowship of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine.
  • Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register.
  • Certificate in Medical Education.
  • Practical experience in the management of critical care patients.
  • Previous appointments that have provided professional training in Intensive Care Medicine.
  • Proven experience of Audit and Quality Improvement with evidence of change.
  • Ability to work in a team with professional colleagues, both medical and non-medical, and other Departments.
  • Skills in echocardiography.
  • Higher training in regional anaesthesia or perioperative medicine.
  • Practical experience in Anaesthetising and management of high-risk patients requiring general and regional anaesthesia.
  • Committed to high-quality patient care.
  • Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation.
