Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Intensive Care Consultant to join our team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality care to critically ill patients and contributing to the development of our Intensive Care and Acute Medical Services.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide expert care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit and Acute Assessment Units.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to the development of our Intensive Care and Acute Medical Services, including the implementation of new policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the on-call rota and provide senior cover for the Intensive Care Unit and Acute Assessment Units.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless care for patients.
Requirements
  • Full registration with the GMC with a valid license to practice.
  • Possession of / eligibility for Fellowship / Associate Fellowship of Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine.
  • Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Registers.
  • A higher degree / masters / PhD.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Practical experience in the management of critical care patients.
  • Previous appointments that provided professional training in Intensive Care Medicine & Acute Medicine.
  • Proven experience of Audit and Quality Improvement with evidence of change.
  • Ability to work in a team with professional colleagues, both medical and non-medical, and other departments.
  • Evidence of commitment to continued professional development.
Commitment to Teaching and Education
  • Evidence of a commitment to teaching and training of junior medical staff / students and other healthcare professionals.
  • Experience of clinical supervision.
  • Completion of a Post-Graduate Certificate in Medical Education.

  • Committed to developing Intensive Care and Acute Medical Services within the Trust.
  • Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation.
