Job Title: Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team at Catch22 College in Maidstone.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in achieving their academic goals by working with individuals and groups, ensuring they stay on task and complete activities set by the teacher.
  • Collaborate with the teacher to address behavioural and special needs issues, and deliver SEN interventions.
  • Assist in implementing lesson plans, aims, and contents with the teacher.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students without referencing the teacher.
  • Lead small groups of students for defined activities.
  • Take responsibility for a whole class during the teacher's absence.
  • Work with challenging students outside the classroom as a respite strategy.
  • Supervise students during breaks and lunchtimes.
  • Liaise with parents on student progress in conjunction with the teacher.
  • Maintain up-to-date learner files and records.

Essential Qualifications:

  • At least a Level 2 Qualification in English and Maths.
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements for health and safety, SEN, and safeguarding of children.
  • Ability to work independently with groups or individual students, supported by the teacher.
  • Capacity to work with challenging students, understand their needs, and demonstrate effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Experience in planning and delivering teaching activities, including those defined in Individual Education Plans.
  • Experience working with children with Education Health Care Plans and Special Education Needs, and language difficulties or other complex needs.
  • Determination to raise the levels of achievement of children.
  • Ability to cope with emotionally demanding situations.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant in an alternative provision environment.
  • Understanding of curriculum, particularly literacy and numeracy requirements.
  • Evidence of successful work with disaffected and emotionally vulnerable students.
