At the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, we're looking for a talented and experienced leader to join our team as an Associate Science Director.

About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled professional with a strong background in environmental science to lead our Environmental Pressures and Response Science Area. As an Associate Science Director, you'll provide scientific and people leadership for your Science Area and across the organisation, working closely with our Deputy CEO and Science Director.

The ideal candidate will have a high level of scientific expertise and be able to represent UKCEH within the wider environmental science community. You'll also need to have strategic thinking skills, leadership skills to direct and motivate teams of scientists, and the ability to work across different scientific disciplines.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for this Science Area, ensuring that scientific activity is excellent and has impact.
  • Actively seek opportunities for innovation with the Science Area and for integration with other Science Areas across UKCEH.
  • Provide leadership and management for the Science Area of between 80 to 100 people.
  • Ensure health and safety management for the Science Area is a priority.
  • Develop Business Plans for the Science Area including achievement of resource allocation and financial targets and budgets.

  • Strategic thinking skills, taking an organisational wide perspective.
  • Leadership skills to direct and motivate teams of scientists to fulfil Science Area and organisational objectives.
  • Ability to develop people and manage poor performance where required.

Estimated Salary: £74,802 - £93,012 per annum
