Professor of Climate and Health Expertise
3 weeks ago
This exciting role offers a unique opportunity to lead and further develop the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine's (LSTM) expertise in Climate, Environment and Health. The successful candidate will contribute to improving health outcomes in vulnerable populations in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
We are seeking a qualified individual to research and translate science on climate change, health and equity. The ideal candidate will have expertise in one (or preferably more) of the following areas: research and education in climate-health policy, biological mechanisms of health impacts from climate change, climate change epidemiology, and intervention research.
The postholder will have a strong record of interdisciplinary, team-based science, including peer-reviewed publications and securing external funding. A focus on high-impact research, climate change impacts on health, implementation, and translational science is essential. Identifying new transdisciplinary research opportunities and expanding funding sources is key to long-term success.
The post will provide strategic leadership, communicating and championing the value and contribution of Climate, Environment and Health to LSTM colleagues working across the translational spectrum and at a regional, national and international level.
The postholder will give expert advice and support in the delivery and development of our postgraduate education portfolio, with a specific vision to enhance the focus on Climate, Environment and Health within our taught programmes.
The key responsibilities of the post include:
- Leading high-impact climate, environment and health research focused on LMICs in collaboration with LSTM departments and the Global Hubs.
- Supporting transition of the Working Group into the Centre for Health, Environment, and Climate Change (CHEC).
- Developing evidence-based interventions for climate-sensitive health risks.
- Fostering global partnerships to enhance LSTM's research impact and capacity.
- Building long-term partnerships with LMIC institutions.
- Collaborating with public health authorities to develop innovative sustainable health systems tailored to climate adaptation and mitigation in LMICs.
We welcome conversations about flexible working and are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in our workplace.
LSTM is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. We aim to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.
LSTM actively promotes Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding Policies.
