The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Legal team, working out of our Maidenhead location. This role will provide commercial and strategic legal advice and support to our businesses.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Identify and analyze routine to complex legal issues related to strategic matters across our divisions, providing effective risk management solutions.
  2. Negotiate and provide strategic legal support on significant matters and areas of importance directly to management and lead stakeholders.
  3. Resolve moderately complex to complex legal matters day-to-day, elevating appropriately to senior legal leadership and other members of the legal team when needed.
  4. Stay up-to-date with changes in laws affecting our client areas, communicating these to our business teams and representing us externally to customers, suppliers, competitors, or government agencies.
  5. Resolve legal issues using negotiation skills and legal expertise, coaching and directing assigned support staff in their responsibilities.
  6. Manage external counsel in a cost-effective manner to minimize risk to our company and provide effective advice to our relevant businesses.
  7. Advise EMEA and divisional counsels or other legal department managers of critical project developments/matters in a timely manner.
  8. Help select and/or direct the work of outside counsel, defining project objectives and managing projects.

Requirements

  1. Qualified Lawyer holding the necessary practice certificate as applicable.
  2. Extensive post-qualification experience.
  3. In-house legal experience required, preferably with some experience in the healthcare sector or other highly regulated industry.

Essential Skills

  1. Strong experience in general commercial law.
  2. Cross-border international experience.
  3. Instruction and management of external counsel.
  4. Strong drafting, negotiation, and client communication skills.
  5. Strong project management skills.
  6. Appreciation of key USA and European anti-corruption, sanctions, and compliance laws.
  7. Able to assimilate new areas of law quickly, leveraging support from external counsel where appropriate.
