About the Role

The Ambulance Care Assistant is a vital member of our team at South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, providing patient transport services to our community. As an Ambulance Care Assistant, you will be responsible for transporting patients to and from medical appointments, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the journey.

Main Responsibilities

  • Drive a long wheel-base vehicle with manual transmission, carefully considering the passenger, equipment, and other road users.
  • Plan journeys to ensure efficient and effective service, considering patient appointment timings and routes.
  • Conduct daily vehicle checks to ensure the ambulance vehicle is roadworthy, reporting any defects.
  • Operate communication systems, administer basic care, and use moving patient equipment as required.
  • Transport patients with assistance as needed, promoting a positive patient experience.
  • Report untoward incidents and ensure clinical waste is disposed of according to Trust policy.
  • Participate in Trust responses to major incidents and pandemics, and complete documentation as necessary.

Person Specification

  • Full manual UK driving license with no more than 3 points for speeding.
  • Previous experience in customer care, online systems, and email.
  • Desirable: 3 GCSEs at grade C or above, previous shift working experience, and NHS experience.
