Job Description

Role Summary

The Deputy Director Risk and Control will lead the HM Revenue & Customs centre of excellence for risk and control, reporting into the Chief Risk, Control and Financial Accountant, (HMRC's Chief Risk Officer) and deputising where necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of risk management strategies and frameworks to ensure the effective management of risk across HMRC.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the risk and control function, ensuring that risk management is integrated into all aspects of the organisation.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders across HMRC, influencing and challenging them on their accountability for enterprise risk management.
  • Assure that HMRC's governance and controls are robust, and that risk management is used to make a real difference at the highest level.
  • Lead and manage high-performing teams through a period of change, ensuring that they have the skills and expertise required to deliver effective risk management.

Person Specification

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate relevant experience and effective delivery of the following essential criteria:

  • Relevant qualification: either ERM certified in Enterprise Risk Management, or a qualified accountant or a qualified internal auditor (CIA).
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders outside your line of command.
  • Extensive experience of using risk management frameworks, methodologies and tools within a large complex organisation.
  • Experience at assessing risks and associated assurance, identifying trends and linkages and reporting these to Board level governance groups.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage high-performing teams through a period of change.
