Job Title: Child Development Specialist
Location: Local Area
Hours: 27.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 39 weeks plus 5 days
We are seeking a Child Development Specialist to join our specialist provision in the local area. Our provision provides a nurturing environment that offers positive learning opportunities for children with special needs up to 5 years old.
Under direction, the post holder will work as a team to ensure planning, day-to-day running, and development at the centre aligns with our vision and aims.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attending to daily care of the playrooms, keeping them attractive, safe, and clean.
- Setting up and planning activities to suit children's needs.
- Developing strong relationships with families and professionals linked to your Key Children.
- Being a dedicated Key Person to a group of children and responsible for observing, assessing, and planning to support their development.
- Observing children during sessions and identifying their interests.
- Recording observations using various methods and sharing them with staff and parents/carers.
- Interacting with children using 'shared play' or 'reflective' approaches.
- Using teaching/learning strategies with children when appropriate.
- Aware of children's emotional needs and how to support them.
- Supporting parents/carers to understand and provide for their child's play needs.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Approachable and friendly to parents, able to listen and accept their feelings.
- Able to make all parents feel valued and use opportunities to promote their confidence and involvement.
- Supportive of parents' concerns.
- Prepared to attend staff meetings and work closely with the team.
- Qualified at NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development or equivalent.
- Skills to organise and co-ordinate play activities for under-fives, considering each child's stage of development.
- Ability to communicate with children of varying abilities and backgrounds, encouraging their development through participation and activities.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and play materials that promote respect for differences.
