Job Overview

Sigma Lithium is a pioneering start-up that specializes in developing cutting-edge battery materials for high-performance Li-metal batteries. We are currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrochemist to join our fast-paced team and contribute to the design, development, and production of innovative battery technologies.

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrochemist to lead our research efforts and drive the development of new battery cells based on novel electrolytes and proprietary anode materials. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing battery cells in line with customer specifications, preparing specifications for electrolyte compositions, overseeing test cell assembly, and managing customer relationships.

Responsibilities:

  1. Design and Develop Advanced Battery Cells: Design battery cells based on new electrolytes and Company anode materials in line with customer specifications.
  2. Prepare Specifications for Electrolyte Compositions: Prepare specifications for electrolyte compositions for new lithium battery based on proprietary lithium anode developed by the Company.
  3. Oversee Test Cell Assembly: Oversee test cell assembly using company proprietary anode materials.
  4. Manage Customer Relationships: Manage customer relationship in bespoke battery/electrolyte development including assessment of product and market requirements including costs.

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Educated to at least degree level in Electrochemistry, Physical Chemistry including training in electrochemical methods such as EIS, PhD desirable.
  • Technical Expertise: Practical experience in Li metal electrochemistry, battery development and chemical engineering, Li-ion battery technology and related materials; knowledge of solid-state-battery technology would be an advantage.
  • Staying Up-to-Date: Being up to date with the state-of-the-art in battery technology.
  • Personal Qualities: Well organised, able to prioritise and work with minimal supervision.

Salary: The estimated annual salary for this role is $120,000 - $150,000 depending on experience.
