Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Protection Specialist to join our Risk and Compliance team at Canada Life Limited. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the company's compliance with data protection regulations and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to the business on data protection and privacy-related matters, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and group-wide standards.
  • Lead the review of internal policies, guidance, and promotional literature to ensure compliance with data protection regulations and guidelines.
  • Advise on and lead the drafting of responses to Subject Access Requests under the Data Protection Act, liaising with the Information Commissioner's Office as necessary.
  • Review privacy breaches and incident reports, advising and supporting investigations and resolution of privacy breaches.
  • Monitor developments in relation to forthcoming European Data Protection regulation and provide advice on actions to assist implementation planning.
  • Produce and analyze data privacy-related management information, ensuring data privacy incidents and near misses are recorded in the Governance, Risk, and Compliance framework.
Requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of current and forthcoming regulatory requirements in relation to Data Protection, including the FCA Handbook and ICO Guidance.
  • A proven track record in data protection oversight.
  • A good understanding of different data protection governance models and controls, with particular reference to the financial sector.
  • Excellent report writing skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
Qualifications
  • Have or currently studying for a financial services or regulatory qualification.
  • GCSE Maths and English essential.
