Director of Quality Assurance and Regulation

Secondment Opportunity

Healthcare Improvement Scotland is seeking a strong, ambitious, and confident director to take forward the further development of the external assurance and regulation of healthcare in Scotland.

The Quality Assurance and Regulation Directorate has a major role in providing robust, objective, and independent quality assurance of all health services provided in Scotland. It also works with a range of other statutory bodies such as the Care Inspectorate, HM Inspector of Prisons, and NHS Education for Scotland.

The Directorate is responsible for the independent regulation and inspection of all independently provided healthcare services in private hospitals and clinics.

This is a demanding role, requiring resilience, energy, and a high degree of political acumen. Applicants will need to have performed successfully at a senior level in demanding strategic and operational environments.

The post holder will be a member of the Executive Team of Healthcare Improvement Scotland and play a significant part in ensuring a cohesive approach to improving the quality of health and social care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective quality assurance and regulation strategies
  • Lead the Quality Assurance and Regulation Directorate to achieve its objectives
  • Collaborate with other statutory bodies to ensure a cohesive approach to healthcare regulation
  • Provide leadership and direction to the post holder's team
