We are seeking an exceptional Theatre Development Specialist to join our New Work Team at the National Theatre.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, attracting, and engaging with emerging theatre artists and their work. This involves supporting the development of new plays from script to stage, working closely with writers and directors to refine their craft, and collaborating with the team to ensure the highest quality productions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reading and assessing a wide range of scripts, providing constructive feedback to support the development process
  • Working with writers and directors to develop proposals and scripts towards commission and production
  • Maintaining a deep understanding of the UK's new writing landscape, including knowledge of emerging talent, trends, and opportunities
  • Collaborating with the team to identify and secure funding for new projects

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of productions, from intimate studio shows to large-scale mainstage productions. You will also contribute to the development of the National Theatre's new writing strategy, working closely with the artistic director and other stakeholders to shape the company's programming.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A proven track record of literary development, with experience of reading and assessing scripts, as well as working with writers and directors to develop their craft
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, concise feedback that supports the development process
  • A deep understanding of the UK's new writing landscape, including knowledge of emerging talent, trends, and opportunities
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, contributing to the development of the National Theatre's new writing strategy

The salary for this role is £40,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience. The National Theatre offers a competitive benefits package, including pension scheme, life insurance, and generous annual leave entitlement.
