Project Overview
Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to work on a project entitled "Multi-modal spatial data integration to predict breast cancer treatment response". The project aims to develop efficient computational tools to parse and integrate multi-modal spatial data from hundreds of breast cancer patients enrolled in neoadjuvant immunotherapy trials.
Research Objectives
The successful candidate will be responsible for collating diverse data, placing them in a shared coordinate space, and unpicking critical correlations that underpin treatment effect. This project offers the opportunity to build multi-modal predictive models that will be tested in independent datasets with the real potential to surpass the current state-of-the-art.
Methodology
The project will involve the development of novel computational tools to parse and integrate multi-modal spatial data. The candidate will receive extensive training in cancer pathology, highly multiplexed imaging, and predictive modelling.
Requirements
We welcome applications from graduates from quantitative disciplines such as computer science and mathematics, but we also encourage applications from biologists already experienced in computational methods. The successful candidate will have a strong background in programming and data analysis, and excellent communication skills.
Funding
This four-year studentship is funded by Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute and includes full funding for University fees and a stipend of £21,000 per annum for four years.
Eligibility
We welcome applications from both UK and overseas students. Applicants must hold or expect to gain a First/Upper Second Class degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject from any recognised university worldwide.
