Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom Devon Partnership NHS Trust Full time

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Practitioner Psychologist to join the Devon Maternal Mental Health Clinic as a Band 6 Preceptorship post with progression to Band 7 upon qualification from a Counselling Psychology Doctorate course.

The Maternal Mental Health Clinic is an NHS service providing psychological therapies to women who have experienced a loss or trauma during the perinatal period. This service was one of the first Maternal Mental Health Clinics commissioned nationally, and we are proud to provide high-quality psychological interventions to women and birthing people during the perinatal period.

This is a psychology-led service with well-established links with the wider Perinatal Mental Health Services (PNMHS), Primary Care Mental Health, Midwifery services, and the 3rd sector. The service consists of a small, supportive team of Psychologists and Counsellors who are passionate about supporting women and birthing people in the perinatal period. We are a trauma-informed service with a focus on improving access to mental health care for people who face health inequalities.

Main Duties

The principal purpose of this job is to improve the psychological health and wellbeing of women accessing the Maternal Mental Health Clinic, which forms a part of the wider Perinatal Mental Health Service.

The post holder will be working under the supervision of a qualified psychologist or psychological therapist to undertake specialised psychological assessments, treatment, and other types of clinical intervention with individual clients. There may also be opportunities to contribute to the development of the service, including the designing and implementation of therapeutic groups, providing training and supervision for midwifery/NICU services, as well as research and service evaluation projects.

The successful candidate will be currently enrolled on a Doctorate for Counselling Psychology training programme, working towards qualification and professional registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC.

Our Values

We can bring those values to life in our everyday tasks by giving a smile; making time for people; challenging ourselves and others, and being open to new ideas.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and applications are encouraged and welcomed from all sections of the community, regardless of any protected characteristics as governed by the Equality Act 2010. Part-time and flexible working applications will be considered and supported, where possible. Job Responsibilities

The principal purpose of this job is to improve the psychological health and wellbeing of women accessing the Maternal Mental Health Clinic, within the Perinatal Mental Health Service.

To undertake specialised psychological assessments, treatment, and other types of clinical intervention with individual clients, staff training, research, and development activity.

To work independently on a day-to-day basis under supervision and subject to review at regular intervals, in accordance with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and British Psychological Society (BPS) or other approved accrediting organisation guidelines; supervision will usually be offered by a qualified psychologist or psychological therapist.
