About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Peer Support Worker to join our team at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. As a Peer Support Worker, you will play a vital role in providing mental health support to young people transitioning from Children's Mental Health services to Adult Mental Health Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide formalized peer support and practical assistance to service users to help them regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery journey.
  • Share your lived experience and inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.
  • Facilitate and support information sharing to promote choice, self-determination, and opportunities for the fulfillment of socially valued roles and connection to local communities.
  • Take a lead role in embedding recovery values within the service and act as an ambassador of recovery for the Trust with external agencies and partner organizations.
Person Specification

We are looking for an individual with a strong commitment to obtaining underpinning knowledge through work-based learning and mandatory training. You will have a willingness to undertake or completion of ImROC Peer Support training and have a good understanding of mental health issues.

Essential qualifications include a commitment to obtaining underpinning knowledge through work-based learning and mandatory training, and a willingness to undertake or completion of ImROC Peer Support training. Desirable qualifications include accredited peer support worker training.

Essential experience includes own personal lived experience of mental health challenges, own personal experience of accessing inpatient mental health services, and a willingness to positively share own life experiences and personal experience of mental health challenges with service users and carers. Desirable experience includes experience of actively supporting individuals to identify and work towards achieving personal goals in a related social care or health setting.

Essential skills and knowledge include the ability to demonstrate first-person experiential knowledge of recovery, the ability to demonstrate knowledge of the concept of personal recovery as it may apply to others, evidence of good interpersonal skills and an ability to form peer relationships with service users and carers, and the ability to communicate on all levels and to a broad scope of individuals.
