About the Role

As a Database Reliability Engineer at the Arnold Clark Group, you will play a critical role in ensuring the security, reliability, and performance of our database systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Administration: Install, configure, monitor, maintain, and improve the performance of our database estate.
  • Availability Management: Ensure the continued availability of our database estate, while establishing tools and processes to do that in an automated manner.
  • Capacity Management: Contribute to the planning, operational monitoring, and day-to-day capacity management.
  • Measurement: Implement and operate alert and monitoring solutions to identify potential issues before they occur.
  • Systems Integration and Build: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and contribute to design and architecture for reliability, scalability, and efficient use of the database.
  • Tools and Methods: Implement automated processes to streamline database operations, configuration, and deployments.

Requirements

  • Proficient in the management of Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools, such as Terraform, PowerShell Desired State Configuration, or other scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of database design, architecture, and security practices.
  • Understanding of always-on availability groups and security and encryption techniques, such as Always Encrypted.
  • Familiarity with source control and CI/CD tools, such as GitHub and Azure DevOps.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with cloud-based technologies, including relational databases such as Azure SQL.
