About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Total Resourcing Ltd. As a key member of our Engineering team, you will play a critical role in delivering projects at various phases, from Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) to commissioning, or in assistance to Plant Operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the deployment of appropriate and adequate design standards and practices, and deliver solutions that are safe, legal, and adequately underpinned.
  • Perform design review activities in a timely manner to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Engage subject matter experts in a timely manner and capture, disseminate, and utilize their expertise to inform design decisions.
  • Manage technical studies related to mechanical handling for both handling operations and heavy mechanical transfer systems, powder mechanical processes (transport, milling, and compaction) in high-active environments and gloveboxes, compaction, and mechanical dismantling technologies.
  • Manage the design of mechanical processes, from strategic and conceptual phases to detailed design and construction & commissioning phase support. Typical deliverables will include technical notes, substantiation notes, mechanical flow diagrams and flow-sheets, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical layout drawings, hazards and malfunctions management, technical specification documentation review from the supply chain.
  • Travel may be required on occasion between client sites.

Requirements

Preferred Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant degree.
  • 10+ years' experience as a Mechanical Engineer.
  • Experience of engineering design (development, FEED, detailed design, technical specification, documentation review from the supply chain) in the nuclear industry or other regulated sectors.
  • Experience of mechanical studies delivery (Mechanical handling, powder technologies) considering manufacture, testing, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, recovery, and decommissioning aspects.
  • Experience of contractor follow-up in the nuclear industry or other regulated sectors.
  • Experience of delivering projects for Sellafield or Magnox sites (desirable).
  • Member of relevant professional body.
  • Recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Hold a minimum of 'SC' UK Security Clearance.
  • Previous experience in a Nuclear Site or other highly regulated site.
