Commercial Manager Job Description

Dornan Engineering Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled Commercial Manager to join our team in London. As a key member of our commercial team, you will be responsible for overseeing commercial activities on site, managing a team of 10+ surveyors on a £100M+ project.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and review the commercial performance of the projects from 'cradle to grave'.
  • Commercial control of the business unit (or part) allocated to them.
  • Collation, review, presentation and the management of subsequent actions arising from the monthly cost reviews.
  • Manage the commercial team to engender their continuous improvement and technical development.
  • Identify and manage the business unit risk and regularly review project risks.
  • Ensure the CCS reporting is formulated accurately and submitted on time.
  • Ask the uncomfortable questions and tease out fact from fiction.
  • Manage the close of completed projects to the best commercial advantage of the company.
  • Regularly review business processes and promote evolution of better working practices.
  • Ensure all projects are driven to provide the best value solutions and delivered on time and within budget.
  • Promote continuous improvement with the commercial discipline of the business.
  • Mentor and provide career guidance to the commercial team in your allocated business area.
Requirements:
  • Over 10 years experience in a commercial role with construction contractors.
  • Qualified in Quantity Surveying and ideally chartered or working towards the same.
  • Experience working with electrical and mechanical scopes of work, as well as general construction.
  • Experience in a client-facing role with strong stakeholder management skills.
  • A strong communicator, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Previous management experience, with the ability to nurture and develop more junior members of the team while still working towards key deliverables.
