Teaching Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive primary school in Exeter. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting the learning and development of young children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and age-appropriate lessons and activities.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to children, ensuring individual learning needs are met.
  • Help create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Support the social and emotional development of children, promoting positive behaviour and interactions.
  • Prepare and organise classroom materials and resources.
  • Assist with the supervision of children during playtime, lunchtime, and other school activities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers, providing updates on children's progress and well-being.
  • Contribute to the planning and assessment of learning activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and school events as required.

Requirements

  • Relevant Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with young children, preferably in a nursery or early years setting.
  • A genuine passion for working with children and supporting their development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude.
  • Knowledge of child safeguarding procedures and a commitment to promoting the welfare of children.
