We are seeking a highly skilled Competition Law Specialist to join our team at Tesco. As a key member of our Competition Law & Regulatory Team, you will play a crucial role in managing competition law processes and maintaining the operational effectiveness of our competition law compliance programme. Your expertise will be essential in supporting our Senior Competition Law & Regulatory Counsels in navigating complex legal issues and providing commercially astute advice on competition law matters.
This is a 3-day per week job share on a 12-month fixed-term contract. Key Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with business colleagues to complete third-party merger questionnaires at Phase I and Phase II (EU and UK)
  2. Work with Property Acquisition and Location Planning colleagues to assess competition law risks involved in the purchase of grocery store sites in the UK
  3. Maintain key competition law compliance programme documents, including risk registers, RACI, policy, and guidance documents
  4. Develop and update training materials for e-learning, micro-learning, and face-to-face training on competition law and the Controlled Land Order
  5. Maintain dawn raid materials and train relevant teams
  6. Manage the competition law inbox, compile pushback data for Committees, and raise any serious issues with your line manager
  7. Support the preparation of materials for UKLT and GRCC competition law
  8. Support and undertake competition law assurance activities
  9. Manage CLO requests from the Competition & Markets Authority and collaborate with Location Planning to acquire necessary information for compliance
  10. Provide ad-hoc competition law advice appropriate to your level of skill and experience
  11. Support the Competition Law & Regulatory Team and the Regulatory, Ethics & Compliance Director with other required competition law and CLO matters
Requirements
  1. Strong experience in drafting, negotiating, and advising on a wide range of UK and EU competition law matters with a pragmatic and commercial approach
  2. Ability to identify and navigate complex legal issues with excellent knowledge of competition law
  3. Self-starter with the ability to work independently and thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  4. Strong partnering skills to build credibility with experienced internal and external colleagues
  5. Calm demeanor and ability to work collaboratively under pressure
  6. In-house experience preferred but not essential
