Job Details

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Pupil Support Assistant. This role is ideal for someone who is committed to improving life chances for all children and young people, enabling them to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils/children individually or in class or in small groups in identified areas of learning and personal development.
  • Contribute information to update planning and review process for individual pupils/children.
  • Supervise pupil/child self-administration of medication and offer a high level of personal care to enable the pupil/child to function to their full potential.
  • Carry out support programmes designed by visiting specialists, such as speech and language programmes, physiotherapy and/or occupational therapy programmes.
  • Support pupil/child mobility on an emergency/short-term basis and for low-level needs, such as toileting or short-term injury.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with good interpersonal skills and abilities to work as a member of a team to ensure positive outcomes for all children and young people. Experience of supporting young people with additional support needs is essential. You must also be able to apply to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 3 months of taking up employment in this role and maintain your registration.

Requirements

  • Good levels of interpersonal skills and abilities.
  • Experience of supporting young people with additional support needs.
  • Ability to apply to register with SSSC within 3 months of taking up employment.
  • 2 National 4s, or 2 Standard Grades General, or 2 O Grades or equivalent (SCQF Level 4 or above).
  • For Early Learning Centres/Primary and Special Schools only - NC in Early Education and Childcare at SCQF Level 6 or SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 6 or Professional Development Award in Education Support Assistance at SCQF Level 6 or equivalent.
  • Good IT skills.

Before Confirming Your Appointment

You will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.

SSSC Registration

The successful applicant will have three months to apply for registration with the SSSC. If appointed, you must start your application as soon as possible so you're registered within the required six months.
